Boo hoo….It’s the saddest time of the year for us at Lowestoft Rowing Club… after this Wednesday, we have to say goodbye to our evening rows!

There’s something rather special about getting out on the water after work. The light fading, the evening air, and that feeling of having squeezed in a row before heading home for dinner. But as the evenings get shorter and the clocks change, it’s time for us to reluctantly put the evening rows to bed for another year.

But there are reasons to be cheerful!

From Sunday 4th October, we’re swapping our evening sessions for Sunday morning rows.

And really, what better way to start a Sunday?

A brisk row on the water, some fresh air, a bit of exercise and then home in time for a completely guilt-free Sunday roast. It’s basically science!

So get your alarms set, dig out your warm layers and start preparing that Yorkshire pudding batter!

Why row in winter?

Winter rowing has its own rewards. The water can be beautifully calm, the river looks completely different in the morning light, and there’s something particularly satisfying about getting out on the water when the rest of the world is still waking up.

Of course, winter rowing also means being sensible about the weather and water conditions. Safety always comes first, so sessions may occasionally need to be changed or cancelled if conditions aren’t suitable. We’ll keep everyone updated when this happens.

New to rowing?

If you’ve recently joined the club, completed a beginner session, or are still finding your feet in the boat, our Sunday morning sessions are a great opportunity to keep building your confidence and experience.

We’re organising dedicated beginner sessions throughout the winter, with places allocated to make sure everyone gets the opportunity to row safely and regularly.

If you’re a beginner and would like to join us, please get in touch to confirm your session time. We’ll let you know what sessions are available and get you booked in.

There’s no need to be put off by the colder mornings — just bring plenty of layers, a willingness to get out on the water and the promise of a roast waiting at the end of it!

So, while we’re sad to say goodbye to our evening rows for another season, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday mornings.

Here’s to crisp mornings, calm water, rosy cheeks and plenty of well-earned Sunday roasts.

Sunday morning rowing starts from 4th October.

If you’re a beginner, get in touch with Lowestoft Rowing Club to confirm your session time and come and join us on the water.

Layers are the order of the day for winter rowing! But don’t forget the sunglasses just in case!
