About Us
Lowestoft Rowing Club was formed in 1977.
The club's original site was on the Schools boat house site at the end of boathouse lane Oulton Broad.
When the site was sold another site was obtained in Nicholas Everitt Park adjacent to the Suffolk County Council Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre. At this time Waveney District Council installed a floating pontoon suitable for l aunching rowing boats.
The Lowestoft and District Waterways and Water Sports Trust was formed and this raised the funds to build a boat house to be shared between the Lowestoft Rowing Club and Lowestoft and District Canoe Club, who rent the building from the Trust. The boathouse was opened in 1991 by the Minister of Sport, Colin Moynihan, Olympic coxswain.
There are members of the club who compete in regattas around the country. But there are members of the club who prefer just to enjoy time on the water. LRC is developing its recreational rowing. Two members regularly participate in the annual Amateur Rowing Association tour over three days. The Tour visited the Broads in 2004 (Beccles to Norwich), visited the Great Ouse last year and is on the Severn this year.
